Project Description
An AI-powered digital assistant that helps Australians navigate government services with ease.
It combines open data from data.gov.au with simple natural language queries, showing users:
Nearest Service Tasmania centre with address, hours & Google Maps link
Medicare benefit insights by state and year
Immigration snapshots for historical/new arrival data
Step-by-step guides for common needs (e.g., Medicare card replacement, Rent Assistance, Family Tax Benefit)
The goal is to make government services accessible, transparent, and citizen-friendly.
Data Story
Australians often find government services confusing and hard to navigate.
We asked: How can AI make it easier for people to access, understand, and engage with government services?
We used datasets including:
Service Tasmania shops (locations & hours)
Medicare Benefits Schedule – Group Statistics (usage & benefit data by state)
Immigration records (historical arrivals & context)
We built a Streamlit prototype that turns plain-English questions into actionable answers.
Example queries:
“Nearest service centre in Hobart”
“How much Medicare benefit was paid in VIC in 2016?”
“Immigration 1920 snapshot”
“I lost my Medicare card – what do I do?”
By combining open datasets with AI-like responses, our solution makes government services easier to find and understand.
