Project Description

GovNav - Services Agent

Application

πŸ“Œ Project Description

Service Agent is an AI-powered platform that helps Australians easily discover, understand, and access government services at life’s most critical moments.

From the birth of a child to the loss of a job, from becoming a carer to recovering from a disaster, Australians often face overwhelming rules, eligibility criteria, and scattered information across multiple agencies. Service Agent cuts through this confusion with a simple, friendly, and inclusive experience.

🌟 How It Works

  • Life Event Cards – Users start by selecting a life event (e.g., β€œLost my job”).
  • AI Chatbot Assistant – A plain-language chat interface that understands questions like β€œWhat support can I get?”.
  • Eligibility Checks – Quick interactive Q&A to help users see if they qualify.
  • Service Pathways – Clear steps on how to apply, with official links.
  • Transparency – Always shows data sources, funding details, and last update dates.
  • Trust & Ethics – Built according to the AI Technical Standard.

AI Technical Standards Design Statements (All)

Description of Use Our project uses the AI Technical Standard as a design guide to make the Services Agent trustworthy and safe. This includes clear explanations of β€œwhy this answer?” was given, explicit consent for data use, human-in-the-loop escalation (β€œTalk to a human”), and transparent data provenance (showing Data.gov.au and Transparency.gov.au as sources). These measures ensure the assistant is not only functional but also compliant with responsible AI principles.

Data Set

Australian Government Transparency Portal

Description of Use Transparency.gov.au is integrated into our assistant to add context about program funding and outcomes. For example, when JobSeeker Payment is recommended, the AI Agent shows its current funding and performance information from Transparency.gov.au. This gives users a clearer picture of how programs are resourced and builds trust in the results.

Data Set

Government Data Portal

Description of Use In our project, https://data.gov.au/ is used to source service information linked to life events (e.g., JobSeeker Payment, Disaster Recovery Payment). When a user tells the AI Agent about their situation (such as losing a job), the assistant queries https://data.gov.au/ datasets to identify relevant programs, eligibility criteria, and official application links.
