Project Description
TrueNorth NT — Your Trustworthy Data Chatbot
The Problem
Government data is massive and complicated. Most people don’t know how to ask the right questions, and even when they do, current AI tools often “make things up.” In government, being 90% right isn’t good enough — every answer must be correct and explainable.
The Solution: TrustBot
We built a chatbot that works like a helpful data assistant. You ask it a normal question like “Are we on track with our budget this year?” and it:
- Looks up official government data only (no guessing).
- Checks its own work with tests.
- Shows where the answer came from, like a receipt.
- Gives you a trust score so you know how reliable the answer is.
What You’ll See as a User
- A clean chat screen, like Messenger or WhatsApp.
- An answer in plain English.
- A button to view the data table, formulas, and source.
- A trust score: Green = safe, Amber = check, Red = not reliable.
Example Questions You Can Ask
- Finance: “Am I spending within my budget?”
- HR: “Which team had the most sick leave this year?”
- Operations: “Are there unusual contracts in procurement data?”
- Transparency: “How many Freedom of Information requests were delayed last year?”
Datasets Used
- Procurement Contracts (spending + suppliers)
- APS Employee Census 2024 (staff wellbeing + diversity)
- Freedom of Information (FOI) Statistics
- HR & Leave Tracking Data (privacy-safe HR patterns)
- Hugging Face Tabular Benchmark (testing the chatbot)
Why It Matters
TrustBot makes AI safe, fair, and explainable:
- Accurate: It refuses to guess.
- Transparent: Every answer shows sources.
- Fair: Protects privacy and avoids bias.
This builds trust in government services, helping public servants and citizens make better decisions with data.
