Project Description

Swiggy Solutions aims to safeguard residents of Moreton Bay by developing an app which alerts residents of road closures due to inundation. Utilising MBRC datasets and location services on personal devices we can deliver alerts to drivers within a 2km proximity of a inundated road. This eliminates hazards for drivers coming across flooded roads and allows for drivers to find alternative roots for transport.

Data Story

With a population increase in the Moreton Bay shire more roads are being traversed everyday. With recent flood events as seen in February 2022 these roads become unusable for drivers with minimal warnings. Leveraging Datasets such as weather impacted road closures and flood hazard overlays from the City of Morten bay alerts can be sent to all driver wanting to use these roads.

Challenge Entries

Moreton Bay being resilient in times of uncertainty (QLD)

How might council be able to utilise our open datasets to assist the community during climate change and significant weather events? We have published datasets that have been built for command centres during adverse weather conditions. What opportunities also exist for these datasets to be used to enable and protect our community during periods of significant weather events?

Eligibility: Open to everyone, preference will be given to those providing solutions using at least one local Moreton Bay region (City of Moreton Bay and/or Unity Water) data set. Employees of City of Moreton Bay with a direct working relationship with members of the local Moreton Bay Gov Hack node organising committee are ineligible to apply for this prize. If unsure, please feel welcome to check and discuss via Slack channels upon commencement of the event.
