Project Description
Australia's economic loss due to flooding has been catastrophic. With the foreseen increase in rain events surrounding and effecting Queensland, it is crucial to introduce strategic transport planning for our freight carriers.
This project proposes the creation of an app that will assist transport planners by providing them with freight data. The freight data will provide information regarding current or potentially damaged/blocked roads, due to flooding.
Flood Freight Assist (FFA) will be accessible to freight carriers, helping them to complete their routes more efficiently by indicating any travel routes that are at risk of flooding after a rain event.
Data Story
In order to provide a strategic transport planing tool, it was necessary to analyse a wide variety of datasets that outlined:
=> Basins and Floodplains: areas that are more prone to collect water and flood after a rain event.
=> Key Freight Routes: significant routes that are used to transport bulk commodities and connect the economy.
=> Financial Income and Loss: statistics that provide insight to the income indirectly generated from freight carriers.
The integration of these datasets provided us with enough information to devise the proposal of Flood Freight Assist (FFA) for transport planners and freight carriers. FFA will assist transport planners by equipping them with the necessary information to monitor current road blockages and predict future road blockages.
