Challenge: How can crocodile monitoring data be leveraged to create solutions that improve public safety and reduce the risk of crocodile encounters in the Northern Territory?
The Northern Territory's rich wildlife includes a significant population of saltwater crocodiles, which pose a potential danger to both residents and visitors. Crocodile information includes valuable data on crocodile sightings and movements, providing an opportunity to enhance public safety. This challenge invites participants to use data to develop innovative solutions that help protect people from crocodile-related risks.
What we are asked to do: Design a platform (or explore technology solutions) that provide timely information/analysis to residents and tourists about crocodile activity. Think outside the box, as not much data is available at the moment. Crowdsourcing could be a useful method for data collecting. What other technologies (drones, radar/sonar, etc) can be used? Alerts could be delivered through mobile apps, SMS notifications, or digital signage in high-risk areas. Participants should aim to develop the concept and prototype that enhances public safety.

Using Database: We have been given datasets of water levels and temperatures, and we will be using them to identify the temperature of different areas. This will help us determine whether the temperature is high or low and, consequently, if there is a living organism present. Since crocodiles are more active than other animals, this can help us identify a thermal pattern. Additionally, by tracking changes in water levels, we can predict which habitats might be more conducive to crocodile presence.

Description of Use The temperature dataset will be utilized to analyze the impact of temperature variations on crocodile movements. This information will be integrated into the app’s predictive algorithms to enhance the accuracy of alerts regarding potential crocodile encounters.
