Australia has committed to Closing the Gap, yet the 2025 Annual Data Report shows:

✅ Only 4 of 19 targets are on track
❌ Outcomes worsening in:
🚔 Adult imprisonment
🏚 Out-of-home care for children
💔 Suicide rates
👶 Early childhood development
📑 The data is complex, hidden in PDFs & dashboards, and hard for communities, service providers, and decision-makers to use effectively.

We built an interactive digital tool that makes Closing the Gap data:

Australian Institute of Health and Welfare – Indigenous Health Reports

Description of Use Supports deeper analysis of health-related Closing the Gap targets (T1 healthy lives, T2 birthweight, T14 wellbeing) and provides context for interventions.

Data Set

ABS Indigenous Population & Demographics

Description of Use Provides denominators and contextual demographics to normalise Closing the Gap indicators, and to identify differences by region or remoteness.

Closing the Gap Dashboard Data (PC)

Description of Use Core source for analysing national and state/territory progress. Used to track which targets are “On track” vs “Not on track”, and to build our traffic-light indicators and trends.
