Project Description
We have developped a simple, straight-foward prototype app to guide senior highschool students on their career path using algorithms and publicly avaliable data. We have strongly prioritized simplicity of user interfaces, as our goal for development is implementations as school-wide surveys. This app is designed to promote tertiary education to the student by prioritizing career paths where maximum skill potential is required from the personally identified skill, given a small amount of tolerance. For this hack we are suggesting small scale implementation into the Moreton Bay region into participation of Senior High-school students, and by using feedback from the prototype we can learn and improve, the UI, the functionality and the algorithm to suggest suitable career pathways. After developping and improving the app we will then re-purpose the app to work internationally targetting senior highschool students around the globe to identify and explore options of career paths.
Data Story
We have identified the opportunity for promoting tertiary education in the Moreton Bay region using Australian Financial statistics by postcode. We have found that the workforce on average has significantly lower indicators of tertiary education, being average HELP Debt / Capita, Work related education expenses / Capita, and a lower average salary, despite Moreton Bay having less unemployment by Australia's Average. We used this identified opportunity in Moreton Bay to configure our "Career Calculator" algorithm to prioritize tertiary education. Our "Career Calculator" also uses the Australian Skills Classification to match an Individual's survey to possible career paths, by using Data of core competencies of job titles. The app produces results of Career Match %, using the magnitude of over qualification, or minor under qualification for specific job titles.
