Project Description

The Belonging project will be - Everybody belongs in society. Some children/adults are stigmatised by what has been traditionally called “special needs” or differences. This doesn’t need to happen. Utilising appropriate datasets to identify targeted populations with differences key community members can start a conversation with them to listen to their stories of exclusive community interactions. The key community members can then personalise Inclusion Stories templates for their community and have books printed. Datasets identified through the Belonging project site as being relevant to local statistics will be analysed to produce an indication of how many resources need to be printed and the ideal locations to be placed.

The pick your own path novel puts the reader in common microaggressive situations to allow the reader to experience what fellow students/ community members that are stigmatised face. By choosing various options they are led to very different outcomes. A way of putting children (and adult) readers in the shoes of the stigmatised to understand how to include everyone.

Data Story

Team Windbreakers used the data to identify groups who are at risk of being excluded from the community due to their disabilities or other conditions. We have combined it with data which highlights geographic location so our service can provide connections between at risk groups and relevant members of the community ( to ensure their stories and opinions are heard). Other data allows us to identify concentrations of common social issues for focussed support.
