Event Information

GovHack is an annual Open Data competition held across Australia. In 2025 it will be held on the weekend of 29th - 31st August

In 46 hours teams create a project page, proof of concept and a video that tells the story of how government data can be reused.

Attending a GovHack event

GovHack is a free event to attend for competitors.

GovHack events are recorded in video, audio and photographic form. By attending, you acknowledge and accept that you may be the subject of such recording and your image may be publicly displayed in connection to the event. We will seek to accommodate but cannot guarantee any specific wish not to be recorded or image displayed.

Node events may not have all the bells and whistles of an Official event. They are unique as they cater to our community groups with Youth, Makers or Special Interest themes.

Important times

7pm Friday Local time – Challenges are published for your region on Hackerspace.

10am Saturday Local time – All competitors are recommended to register as a team on Hackerspace. Also the recommended time for selecting your challenges and recording them to your project page.

3pm Sunday Local time – Your video should be submitted and a URL linking to your video created to load on your Project page. It may take some time for your video to load once you have started the upload process.

5pm Sunday Local time – You MUST have all parts of your competition entry submitted before 5:00pm Local time.

Server uploads may take time, and last-minute submissions could fail due to high traffic or file size. To avoid issues, we strongly recommend uploading your files progressively as you complete them rather than waiting until the final minutes.

Submission times are system programmed and controlled. Hackerspace will automatically lock at the end of the competition. There will be no extensions!
